Infusion and Injection

Infusion and Injection

Coding professionals must be experienced and not just certified to put information from CPT, CMS, and their Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) together to understand and capture complete picture for how to report drug administration services. Most of the confusion surrounding drug administration services centers around reporting intravenous (IV) injection and infusion services.

At Medcodia, our coders have minimum of 2 years of Infusion and Injection Coding experience to properly and efficiently code any and all infusion and injection notes.

Infusion: involves the administration of IV fluids and/or drugs over a period of time for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes

Injection: delivers a dosage in one ‘shot,’ either very quickly or in some cases over a period of time where the healthcare provider is continuously present to administer the injection either subcutaneously, intramuscularly, intra-arterially, or intravenously.

There are mainly 3 drug categories

1. Chemotherapy (96401 – 96549)
2. Non-Chemotherapy, Therapeutic (96365 – 96379)
3. Hydration (96360 – 96361)

At Medcodia, we would be happy to take on any backlog if needed to make sure that your Infusion and Injection Billing and Coding are current.
